Steward Health Care Announces Tony Gomez as New President of Palmetto General Hospital

Gomez Will Oversee Steward Health Care’s largest South Florida hospital

March 16, 2022 - Steward Health Care is pleased to welcome Tony Gomez to its executive leadership team as the new President of Palmetto General Hospital. Gomez will oversee operations and leadership at Palmetto General, which has served the Miami community for over 50 years and is a regional leader in stroke care. 

“(Gomez’s) experience, knowledge and relationships in our community will be instrumental in our continued success at Palmetto. He has the vision and skills to lead Palmetto General Hospital into the future,” said Marisela Marrero, Steward’s Regional President for South Florida. “His business acumen, leadership skills, and proven track record in the industry make him an exceptional fit for the Miami market.” 

Gomez steps into his role after holding leadership roles at Jackson North Medical Center and HCA Healthcare. He has extensive experience with helping to lead hospitals through quality improvement initiatives and physician growth strategies.   

“Helping health care facilities reach their highest potential has been the greatest reward of my career, and I look forward to helping Steward in its mission to provide high-quality care to patients in the communities where they live,” said Gomez, the newly appointed President of Palmetto General Hospital. “I look forward to working with the hospital staff and our physician partners to improve the health of our community and make Palmetto General the premier hospital in the area.”

With a lifelong passion for health care, Gomez has a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Health Services Administration from Florida International University. He is a life-long resident of South Florida.
